Hells Angels avoid Coast

IN the end, the Hells Angels, one of the most feared clubs in the world, played it safe and avoided the Gold Coast for their annual Good as Gold poker run today.

Close to 1000 riders from interstate and from across the southeast joined the convoy of bikes which turned away from the busy M1 and thundered down the Warrego Highway.

The route was unexpected.

Police had expected the club to hit the Gold Coast after the annual run last year wound its way to Yatala.

Instead, the Hells Angels headed west to the Sundowner Hotel at Plainland for lunch and were expected to return to their Browns Plains clubhouse.

The mood before the run kicked off at 12.30pm was relaxed. Several members of varying clubs were seen drinking alcohol before the start.

Members stood together at the gates of the clubhouse.

The general public were allowed to photograph the club, members and the rows of Harley Davidson motorcycles which lined the streets for hundreds of metres.
